The term prime refers to a primary skill that levels one's Class Level, these skills are usually the ones that are used during hunts or combat, with the exception of alchemy, and often enchanting (crafting fails, if attacked by being hit). Class level, in return, raises your stats such as Strength and Intelligence. Although considered immoral, some Oberinites train these primes by exploiting things in the game in order to level their class level.

Each class has exactly three primes. In the Character Creator, one typically assigns points to the three primes and to some economic skills. But "trade skills" are easier to level than Resisting Magic (even as-or -around "self-healing mages"), which is also done via being attacked (like Parrying for the "dedicated Plates").

A slightly tongue-in-cheek term was coined in the early 2000's in the form of the Oberin "sub-prime."
