This page is designed to show the relative magical resistance of creatures in Oberin. Tests were conducted using a Wizard with Magery/Wizard level 12 casting Paralyze. Measurements were taken showing the range of time that the targeted creature remained paralyzed.
Methodology[]
Paralyze was chosen as the measuring device because it is not affected by the target's hit points (as Lightning Bolt would be) or its healing rate. Ten paralyze spells were cast on each target, and the length of paralysis was recorded for each spell. The highest and lowest times were thrown out, and the mean and range are reported here. It should be noted that there is a great deal of variability in spells, as can be seen from the results below. And even the most skilled wizards will periodically see a creature revive from paralysis after less than two seconds despite that creature's low resistance to magic.
Wizards with Magery/Wizard level lower than 12 will see shorter average paralysis times, and wizards with higher levels will see longer average times.

Note: by April of 2011, creature levels had been changed, all but Giant Snakes being an increase, of the ones which were changed.
