The Ring of Lightning Bolt, often abbreviated to RoLB, empowers its wearer to cast the famed Lightning Bolt spell otherwise available only to wizards. The Lightning Bolt spell cast from the ring is approximately equivalent to one cast by a wizard with Magery/Wizard level 15. The spell cast by the ring does not cost mana points from the caster. A fully-charged ring (+10) is good for 11 uses. The ring is destroyed subsequent to its 11th use.
While a wizard can create a Ring of Lightning Bolt with Enchanting, it is far more efficient and cost-effective to obtain one via either of the two quests. This is because the Enchanting recipe calls for a Pure Crystal Ring, which is worth twice or even three times as much as a RoLB.
The easiest way to obtain a RoLB is by hunting Sea Serpents for their Purple Eggs, and then giving 24 of these to Fallon at The Hungry Gaper Restaurant in Mirith. The other quest involves a long chain that begins by giving 10 Ivory Tusks to Julvi at the Gem Shop of Marali. This second quest is not completed quite as often as the first, however, because Tuskers are generally harder to find than Sea Serpents. Additionally, there is a rare chance to find a RoLB on Storm Elementals and Zephyrs.
Rings of Lightning Bolt are favored by players of all classes (excluding wizards), given their usefulness in emergency situations and RTQs. They may be especially useful to clerics, who are naturally lacking in decent offensive options.
