The Elevate Mind temporarly boosts the target's Intelligence so that his/her spells has a greater effect, an easy way to experiment with this as a wizard is to first cast magic trap on something, then have a cleric cast elevate mind on yourself, (or drink an elevate mind potion and then cast magic trap on something else and ask a fighter, (or, Ranger for higher health) to test your traps.
