Fighters have only combat skills as their primary skills which makes them the most basic class in Oberin. They have the highest Strength level along with Rangers and share the highest number of HP. They excel at being the tanks of Oberin but are unable to cast spells of any kind. While they can solo many Creatures, they require the assistance of potions or mages to do so for any length of time.
Tips & Tricks Edit
Starting out: A fighter's life is in his or her Equipment. The vast majority of fighters wear full Plate Armor whenever battle presents itself, the only exceptions being the use of Robes of Resistance when fighting magic-using Creatures, or when fighting Rust Beasts wear Leather Armor or a Robe of Protection is necessary. Therefore it is very useful when creating a fighter to give up a few skill points in Mining and Blacksmithing. Lumberjacking and Woodcrafting are also useful, as Boards are used in all Weapon crafting, but less important than Ferrite. Starting with these sub-prime crafting skills instead of focusing on primes creates a character that is initially weaker by Class Level, but more able to sustain him or herself economically. Some people recommend a few points in Resisting Magic, but since this skill is capped it arguably ends up being a waste. However, if you start a Fighter with no Resisting Magic, they will have an extremely hard time dealing with magic-using creatures. Eventually, fighters will aquire Resisting Magic 4 anyway. They want at least Blacksmithing 8 to make their own plate, and most experienced fighters eventually level this skill to 10 or more. However, a fighter's primary skills are harder to level than any other class, so a suggestion of one experienced fighter is to put 4 in all three primary skills, and 2 in mining.
Training: If the above advice is followed, class level 5 can be achieved quickly because of the level 4 skeletons in the Lerilin cemetery, and any spare time (when no friendly cleric can be found) can be spent mining, then smelting ore in the forge to level blacksmithing. Fighters should also hotkey anatomy, and use this skill constantly when 4 or more creatures (including themselves) are present, endlessly cycling around to level this skill.
Fighters need to make friends with Clerics, as this duo is probably the most powerful in the game, and it is much easier for fighters to train with clerics rather than potions.
The fighter's critical strikes, derived from the Anatomy skill, deal big damage. The frequency and strength of Critical Hits are both increased with each level increase in Anatomy. Unlike regular hits, critical hits ignore the Armor Rating of their target. Critical hit damage delivered to a creature with a high Armor Rating, like a Dragon, is the same as critical hit damage delivered to a creature with a low Armor Rating, like a Poison Beast. Most high level fighters consider Anatomy to be their most important skill, even more important than their primary skills.
